The Copy Chick C U L8TR ALIG8TR My friends tease me about two things: my SMS technique, and my fabled red pen. I'm possibly the only person in the world who still spells out words - in their entirety - on my mobile phone.... with full punctuation (of course!). Sure it might be easier to text "c u l8r alig8r", but to me it just doesn't seem right. To me, words are like flowers. Carefully cultivate them, arrange them artfully, and you will create something beautiful. Hack them to bits, and... well... something seems to get lost in the translation. Which is where my fabled red pen comes in. I'm forever getting upon my soapbox, red pen in hand, bemoaning the tragic abuse of the English language in newspapers, magazines, instruction manuals and pretty much everything else I read. My friends now just roll their eyes and quietly ignore my vows to send a copy of "whatever" to the editor, complete with copy corrections duly marked in red pen! It might be that I have too much time on my hands.... I prefer to think I have high standards. A brief sojourn I have always loved words and language. I was reading by age four and throughout my childhood developed my writing skills conceiving all manner of stories, plays, poetry and songs. As a young adult I found travel and other adventures to occupy my time, but the emergence (and speed) of email and the internet rekindled my passion for writing. Around this time I had started working with a graphic design studio and was given the task of proofing copy from clients and copywriters. I eventually moved on to a marketing agency where I progressed to writing in-house copy and my interest in becoming a copywriter was sparked. I enrolled at Edith Cowan University (WA), where I completed studies in Professional Writing, and later followed this with studies in Business Advertising. Having rounded out and expanded on my previous industry knowledge, I went on to write promotional material for a number of companies, eventually landing a role as Marketing Coordinator for a mid-tier professional services firm. A couple of life-changing personal experiences eventually led me not only to the Adelaide Hills, but also to evaluate what I really wanted out of life. Aside from $10 million dollars and a Bugatti Veyron (not a big ask, surely!), I felt the time was right to fully venture out on my own. And here we are I'd love the opportunity to help take your business communications to the next level, so give me a call.. let's get talking..! 0459 239 066 |
